Hey you two. The Google e-mail I have for Kat bounces. I wanted to talk to you both about something I have cooking for this Fall. Drop me a line at bq [at] mackintosh dot org or hit me on AIM under bqmackintosh. Or, obviously, bq.mackintosh [at] gmail.

Heheheh. Uh, yes, but possibly not by name. I "assisted" in the photo shoot at Office Nomads in December, and last saw you guys on New Years Eve.

Yeah, I'm a 'tard and I realized who you were as soon as I posted that comment. My bad! Sent you an email too. ;)

On a whim this Sunday I had my nipples re-pierced. (NSFW image.) If you're not in the loop, I had them previously pierced on Halloween in 2004 and kept them for a year and a half before giving up on them ever healing (see bottom of the post).
They've been out for two years, and I missed them despite the grief they caused me. Since then, I've always been secretly jealous of anyone who has them. Well, if at first you don't succeed, try and try again, right?
A number of things have changed with my life and with my body in the past two years, and that's enough for me to give it one more shot:
I've been on Citalopram (Celexa) since approximately March 2006 (3 months after I removed my jewelry) and my mental state has improved considerably-- no more constant level of anxiety, no more panic attacks, no more depressive episodes. Yay!
I've also been off hormonal birth control since the fall of 2006, when I had an IUD inserted. This has led to a number of subtle physical changes in my body, most noticeably my breasts.
I'm also in a better place, minus the stress of school and a job I didn't enjoy.
The straw that broke the camel's tit... err, back was Sunday's "Ladies Rope Club" at the Harbor Steps apartment. A friend of mine has such gorgeous piercings and I could see them through her shirt (hot!). I was just insanely jealous so I said to myself, "You know what? It's time." And the first thing I did after I got home was head over to Deep Roots int he U District with Justin and had it done.
I wanted to use my own jewelry since I had both the barbells I was pierced with and the rings I'd swapped to, but I wasn't able to. The parlor was perfectly willing to sterilize and re-pierce with jewelry, but not in the size I had. I'd been pierced with 14-gauge jewelry and the smallest they use for nipples is one size larger, 12 gauge. This isn't uncommon and I wasn't really surprised. The smaller gauge may have been one of the reasons I had trouble healing in the first place (though it seems like a slight difference) so I bought some new jewelry.
The piercings are doing well, but it's too soon to say whether it will work this time around. I didn't have much scarring from my last attempt even though I was sure I would, so worst case scenario I'll just remove these if they don't figure out their shit in 6 to 9 months.
Wish me luck!

Yay Kat! My best friend has a (just one) beautiful (14-gauge) nipple piercing as well. I hope yours work out!
I actually had my belly button repierced after the first one refused to heal and then got infected when I was in Spain 6 months later. The second time was a charm--still perfectly healed almost 6 years later.
Good luck!

If you like owls, and even if you don't (in which case you suck already), check out this awesome live feed of a nesting great-horned owl. She laid two eggs, they hatched, and she sits on them all day leaving only briefly to hunt and poop. Their dad is around too and if you watch carefully, you might see him bring food. ^_^ EEE!!
Right now she's lumped on top of her chicks and you can see one wiggling near her feet. SO CUTE. If you're on mac, the stream might not load in firefox. I got it to open in Safari, then set Flip4Mac to open movies in Quicktime. The stream loaded in Quicktime and now I can resize it to much larger and let it run in the background.

I LIKE OWLS! :D

It stopped working for me. FUCK! I need to watch the owl!!! It's a compulsion!!
They post screenshots every 2 minutes so I know the cam is up, but I can't get the stream to load any more. :( :( :( :(

For starters, here's a video I took of the morning meditation ceremony at Rengejoin temple on top of Mount Koya in Japan (See also: Mount Koya on Wikipedia and my photos from Mt. Koya).
Mount Koya is headquarters to the Shingon sect of Mahayana Buddhism, founded by Kukai in 819. We stayed at a temple lodging (yes with real monks) that came highly recommended by a local Monk for its English-speaking temple "Mother," Soeda-san. It was a really good experience because it meant that my whole family could hear about the history of this sacred place in their native language.
The food was amazing, the rooms were comfortable, and the baths were pristine. Rengejoin was wonderful and Koya-san is one of my favorite places in all of Japan to visit.

This year has really sucked for illnesses. Normally I get sick once or twice a year with minor colds. I've been sick four times in the last 5 months with some big annoying colds and flus. :(
On the plus side, I did my taxes last night and I get a phatty return this year. That, coupled with the federal refund and profit-sharing bonuses at work will put a nice padding in my pocket for the wedding.

So I was pretty much screwed for two hours until the handyman showed up for another reason entirely and we jimmied the lock together.
Go me. What a day.

Happened to me the other day. I went to get my mail in my bathrobe. Luckily after checking all the windows I found one I could pop the screen out of and climb in. The cats were looking at my like "WTF, why don't you use the door?"

After that I will consult with my doc and his physical therapist team and move back into gradual retraining on rock provided all goes well.
We considered an MRI but felt it was only necessary if I needed the absolute most aggressive healing time. Since I have no climbing competitions in the near future, I'm just fine with having an extra week if necessary...and saving the $$$ that an MRI costs. That said, it was nice having a doctor who understands athletics and broached it immediately...just how soon do you need to be back on a wall. Well gosh! I'm glad you asked!
