I'm trying to get back to running outdoors but it's a difficult initiative. I've done SO MUCH running near our apartment with all the marathon training we did in 2006/2007. All of the routes accessible on foot to me from home are now so well-traveled that they're quite boring to run. And it's tough to pack up and go somewhere in the car, even only 15 minutes away, when planning a run of an hour or less. But I'd better do it, or else suck it up and re-run the "boring" routes, because I've decided to start training for the Eugene 1/2 marathon.
No more whole marathons for me... after 6 weeks of physical therapy post last year's Eugene marathon, I just don't think my knee can take it. I do want to run the Eugene course with friends again, and this is a good way to do it.
I'm also planning on riding the 204-mile STP this summer. I really enjoy distance rides on my cyclocross bike, and that's something I'm hoping to do much more of on the weekends this year.
As unlikely as it may be, I'd also like to lose the extra ten pounds I've put on post-college due to desk jobs. I'm pleased with my body as-is, and I'm certainly not heavy, but it's nice to have some goal or inspiration for exercise as "fitness for fitness' sake" doesn't seem to inspire me when I'm as busy as I have been. With the wedding coming up, I can use that for extra motivation to, I dunno, "wail on my pecs" and "get some ripped abs" or some other bullcrap like that.
I guess it's these beautiful, clear winter days that have me looking forward... they look so deceptively like summer until you step outside into the cold. :)
